Here at TK9, we believe Behavior Modification is the means to resolving behavioral issues. Behavior modification addresses the underlying reasons for problem behaviors rather than focusing solely on the behavior itself. Most notably, problem behaviors are caused by poor adrenaline management, adrenaline addiction, poor or no social skills, lack of trust & poor communication. Once you address the underlying issue, the unwanted behavior is less likely to surface. Some of the most common behaviors we are able to help resolve through this practice include leash reactivity, threshold reactivity, barrier frustration, resource guarding, and separation anxiety.
TK9 seeks to treat the whole dog, not just the problems you face at the surface. For this reason, our behavioral plans address the entire spectrum of factors that affect behavior. These factors include (but are not limited to): Modifying nutrition, balancing the relationship between owner and dog, teaching good obedience through clear communication, improving leash communication, providing positive social interactions in a safe environment, teaching relaxation techniques to reduce adrenaline dependency, and changing the dog’s perception of triggers.
Our trainers meet one-on-one with you and your dog to not only better evaluate the behavior the dog is exhibiting, but also get a better read on the relationship between you and your dog. Our program is unique in that it is structured on a case by case basis, meaning training plans are tailored specifically for you and your dog. Our training plans are a unique blend of private lessons, group classes and socialization sessions. By implementing these tools correctly, we are able to provide individualized instruction, as well as an opportunity for acquired skills to be practiced in a group environment when the dog is ready. Through the training plan, our trainers are able to guide both you and your dog every step of the way to help reach the goals you’ve set together.
Once you have an understanding of our Behavior Modification techniques, your trainer may recommend that you begin attending our Behavior Modification classes to help maintain your skillset. These take place on a weekly basis and are only available to clients who have committed to a training plan.
